About Clearway Billing

Thanks to your Clearway subscription, polluted energy on the power grid is being replaced with 100% renewable, local power! Together with our customers, we are building a clean energy future, and with ocean temperatures rising and countries experiencing climate crises, it is more important than ever — thank you for being part of the difference!

When you receive your first Clearway bill, we want to ensure you understand how billing works so that you can feel great about your renewable power commitment.

In return for supporting renewable power, you are now receiving solar bill credits on your utility bill. Now that the solar bill credits are being applied to your utility bill (and reducing your utility charges!) Clearway will begin billing for the solar bill credits in a separate invoice.

Here’s some helpful information to keep in mind as you get started with Clearway.

The Community Solar Process

Your Clearway subscription is simple and convenient – here’s a quick reminder of key program details.

Clearway Community Solar Farms produce renewable solar electricity that goes to your community. Polluted energy sources are replaced with clean ones.

In return, you receive solar bill credits automatically applied to your local utility bill, reducing your electricity charges.

You pay Clearway for the solar bill credits at the special rate designed to help you save* - your rate is featured on your Customer Agreement.

*Savings may vary based on solar production, monthly utility rate, and other factors.

Clearway's Billing Process

You will continue to receive a bill from your local utility – they are still responsible for your energy supply. It will now feature a new line item that shows your solar bill credits that reduce or offset your utility charges. You are responsible for paying any balance directly to your utility that is not offset by the solar bill credits. Visit the billing section of our FAQs to see how the solar bill credits will appear on your utility bill. 

A separate invoice will come from Clearway Community Solar for your solar farm subscription and the cost of the solar bill credits at your contracted rate.

Same bill as usual from your utility, but now your monthly solar bill credits are applied, and your utility cost is lowered! You will pay your utility bill directly to your utility.

A separate bill comes from Clearway for the cost of your solar bill credits at your special rate. You will pay your Clearway bill directly to Clearway. AutoPay option available.

A Closer Look at Energy Savings

  1. Now that your assigned Clearway solar farm is live, solar production has begun and Clearway billing will begin soon.
  2. For the solar energy produced by your portion of the solar farm, you are now receiving bill credits – we call these “solar bill credits.”
  3. The solar bill credits are applied to your monthly utility bill, reducing your charges.
  4. To recap, you will continue to receive a monthly utility bill. But now, your utility bill will be reduced by the solar bill credits you receive as a result of being a Clearway customer.
  5. You will receive a separate bill from Clearway. Your Clearway bill is for the cost of the solar bill credits at the rate specified in your contract.
  6. Just as a reminder, you’re replacing dirty power with clean power and in return, getting solar credits at a special rate designed to help you save on electricity.
  7. Your Clearway rate can be found on your Clearway Customer Agreement. You can access your Customer Agreement by logging into your Online Customer Portal at www.my-clearway.com. You can also pay your bills, enroll in Paperless Billing and AutoPay, and manage your account within the Customer Portal.

 

How to Pay Your Clearway Bill

There are fast and easy options for paying your monthly Clearway bill.

  1. Enroll in AutoPay: Enjoy effortless, secure payment processing through AutoPay without any extra monthly to do’s or hassles.
  2. Pay Online: You can pay your bill online in your customer portal at my-clearway.com. You can also reach the portal on Clearway’s website by clicking on the green button in the top right hand corner labeled “My Customer Portal.”
  3. Pay by Phone: You can call our customer support team at 1.855.712.7508 to complete payment by phone.
  4. Pay by Check: You can mail a check to: Clearway Community Solar, P.O. Box 4387, Portland, OR 97208. Be sure to include your account number on your check.

Billing Options - AutoPay & Paperless

Clearway offers paperless billing to support our environmental mission. We also offer AutoPay. With AutoPay, you’ll save time and enjoy the convenience of knowing your bill is paid automatically, securely, and on time.

Enrolling in AutoPay is easy! Simply:

  1. Log into your customer portal at my-clearway.com and click the “Billing Information” tab.
  2. Call Customer Support at 1.855.712.7508 from Monday through Friday from 8am to 8pm CST.
  3. Email Customer Support at customersupport@clearwayenergy.com.

Clearway Community Solar Billing: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do I receive a separate bill from Clearway?
A: Clearway’s program is separate from your utility, and your energy supply is still through your local utility. Therefore, you will continue to receive your utility bill as usual, but now, your utility bill will show the solar bill credits resulting from your Clearway subscription, which reduces your utility charges. Clearway will send a separate bill to you for the solar bill credits at your contracted rate.

Q: Do I still need to pay my utility bill?
A: Yes, you are still responsible for paying your monthly utility bill. Your charges will be lowered by the solar bill credits applied to your bill.

Q: How is my Clearway bill calculated?
A: Your monthly Clearway charge is:
(Solar Production) * (Your Clearway Rate) = Your Monthly Clearway Charge.
Your Clearway rate is listed on your Customer Agreement. You may request a copy of your Customer Agreement by logging into the Customer Portal or emailing customersupport@clearwayenergy.com.

Q: What Are Solar Bill Credits? 
A: Every month, the solar energy generated by the solar farm is sent directly to the local power grid, and Clearway customers receive solar bill credits for the solar energy produced. The solar bill credits are applied directly to utility bills, helping reduce the cost of electricity supply.

Q: What If There is More Solar Production Than is Needed to Offset My Utility Bill? 
A: In high production summer months, solar production may be higher than your home’s energy consumption, resulting in surplus production that cannot be applied to your utility bill as a solar bill credit. This surplus production will be banked for your account for future application to your utility bill. This banked production comes in handy in winter months when energy consumption is often higher, but solar production is lower.

Q: How Do I Know If I Am Saving?
A: Clearway will provide periodic updates over email and mail with savings updates. Additionally, you can request a savings report by emailing customersupport@clearwayenergy.com. Finally, you may visit your Customer Portal to see the solar production and credits applied to your account to date.

Q: If I Am On A Budget Billing Program, Will I Still Save with Clearway?
A: Yes, if you are on a Budget Billing program with your utility, you will still receive the solar bill credits resulting from your Clearway subscription, and your monthly utility bill will be lowered each month. You are responsible for paying your Clearway bill separately from your utility bill.

Q: Will I Still Save If I Receive Energy Supply with a Retail Electric Supplier?
A: In most cases, if you are signed up for energy supply through a third-party retail electric supplier, you will still save by being a Clearway subscriber. In some regions, like Illinois, you must be on the utility default supply rate in order to save. However, if you are in states like Massachusetts or New York, you will still save with Clearway regardless of your energy supplier.

Q: How Do I Pay My Clearway Bill?
A: Pay Online: You can pay your bill online at www.clearwaycommunitysolar.com – click on the green button in the right hand corner labeled “My Customer Portal.” Log in to complete your payment.

Pay by Phone: You can call our customer support team at 1.855.712.7508 to complete payment by phone.

Q: How do I sign up for AutoPay?

Q: Can I Refer My Friends to Clearway?
A: Yes, you may refer friends to Clearway and receive a bill credit or gift card in return for every new customer that enrolls. There is no limit to the number of referrals you may provide! To refer friends, simply email communitysolarsales@clearwayenergy.com with your friends name, phone number and email and our team will reach out. You may also have your friends call Clearway directly at 1.866.520.3833- just be sure to have them mention your name!
